Convention Rules
Convention week is planned and intended to be a time of spiritual enrichment and fellowship for the young people of our denomination. We believe that all conventioneers know what is expected of them; however, we all need guidelines to govern us at times. We, the host church, Hudsonville PRC, will require all conventioneers to abide by these rules.
- Compliance of all camp rules as given below and posted on grounds.
- Choice of clothing for all events will be modest and reflect that the wearer is a child of God. This includes proper swim attire (i.e., No bare midriffs for women).
- No water or food fights in the dorms.
- No cigarettes, tobacco of any kind, or alcohol.
- No illegal drugs, including sleep inhibitors (ex.: No-Doze).
- No knives, matches, lighters, fireworks, or any type of weapon.
- Electronics should be left home. This includes MP3 players, iPods, radios, computers, cell phones, etc.
- All prescription drugs need to be administered by the camp nurse. Please give these to your chaperone.
- Quiet time follows devotions, and conventioneers must stay in their buildings after devotions.
- There will be a fee for lost keys.
- Conventioneers who drive to convention will be required to give their cars keys to their chaperone. No use of personal vehicles during convention will be allowed.
- Proper Christian conduct includes respect for other's property. We intend to show respect to the camp and to other's belongings. Any broken items will be paid for by the person or persons responsible for the damage.
- Shirts and shoes must be worn during meal times.
- We expect that conventioneers will show at all times that they are children of God. To that end, we expect all behaviors, actions, and dress will be such that God's name be praised and no shame be brought upon the PRYP or the denomination.
- Conventioneers will be expected to stay on camp grounds at all times. (MUST stay off private property near/in the camp.)
The Federation Board of the
Protestant Reformed Young Peoples Societies
We, the Federation Board, have been given the responsibility to help all the Young People's Societies work in close unity and to guide the societies so they can help the young people of the denomination develop in faith and doctrine. Also, the Federation Board assists the host Society on the annual Conventions.
In order to maintain an atmosphere which is conducive to the spiritual well-being of all involved, the Federation Board adopted a discipline policy which helps maintain the correct atmosphere at the Conventions, especially on the last night. The policy is as follows:
"Any young person expelled from the present year's convention will not be allowed to attend future conventions pending an appeal to the Federation Board. The young person who has been expelled will be held responsible to send a letter of apology addressed to the Federation Board showing true remorse for their misconduct. Upon receiving this letter the Federation Board will grant the young person reinstatement toward future conventions."
In order that the Convention might be a means to spiritually grow in the love of Jesus Christ, conventioneers are encouraged to "walk worthy of the Lord" Colossians 1:10. Remembering not only who we are, but also Whose we are will be beneficial in assisting the spiritual welfare and development of all attending this year's Convention.
