2008 Protestant Reformed Young People’s Convention Rules

Convention week is intended to be a time of spiritual enrichment and fellowship for the young people of the denomination.  The host church, Byron Center PRC, has spent numerous hours planning and preparing such a week.  We believe that all of the conventioneers know what is expected of them during this week; however, we realize that all of us need guidelines at times to govern our actions.  To this end, we will require that ALL conventioneers abide by the following rules:

  • Compliance with all camp rules as posted and listed below.
  • Choice of clothing for all events will be modest and give evidence that the wearer is a child of God.  This includes modest swimwear (i.e. no bare midriffs for women).
  • No smoking or possession of any tobacco products.
  • Alcohol and illegal drugs are forbidden by state law and must not be present at camp or during any convention activities.  Sleep inhibitors such as No-Doze are also forbidden.
  • All prescription medication must be administered by the camp nurse.  Please turn these in to your chaperones.
  • No knives, matches, lighters, or other such items should be brought to the camp.
  • Electronic devices should be left home.  This includes MP3 and/or CD players, IPods, Laptops, cell phones, radios, etc.
  • No magazines or comic books.
  • No skateboards or rollerblades.
  • Young people who drive to the convention must give their car keys to the chaperone for their dorm section.  Unauthorized use of cars is not allowed.
  • Proper Christian conduct includes respect for the property of others.  We intend to show that respect for camp property and equipment.  Items broken or damaged will be paid for by the persons who damaged them.
  • Nightly quiet time follows devotions.  Conventioneers must stay inside their buildings after devotions, except by special permission of chaperones.
  • There will be a fee to pay for lost keys.

Our expectations are reasonable, and we do not feel as though an exhaustive list of do’s and don’ts is necessary.  We expect that conventioneers will show at all times that they are children of God.  Behavior and dress will be such that God is praised and no shame is brought upon the PRYP or the denomination.

I have read and agree to abide by the rules of this convention.  My parents agree as well and give permission for the Discipline Committee to take necessary action if my conduct is not proper for a Christian.

***At the end of the registration forms, parents and conventioneers will be asked to sign that they have read and agree to the rules of this convention.
